Simple and Classy Adelaide Church Wedding

Emily and Kyle wanted a relaxed and simple but classy wedding day. They chose the lovely St Laurence’s Catholic Church in the City of Churches and followed up with a cocktail reception and dancing at the gorgeous Ayers House in the Adelaide CBD. They were clever to save on costs in a lot of areas of their wedding. And how about that dress, perfectly mirrored in the folds of the cake. Simply breathtaking!

Gown: White strapless, fitted, with beading and small train.
Shoes: White leather and diamante sandals.
Suit: Black suit, white tie.
Accessories: Diamond drop earrings, white veil, diamante bracelet.
Hair: Curled, pinned back.
Makeup: By Toniann – natural-ish with gorgeous false eyelashes.
Flowers: Bouquet of white roses, from Tynte Flowers.
Ceremony: Catholic church ceremony, at St Laurence’s in North Adelaide – a central location and the Groom’s Grandparents were married in same church.
Reception: Ayers House, Adelaide CBD. Cocktail reception.
Music: iPod attached to speakers with music picked by Bride.
Decoration: White tablecloths and crystal candelabra.
Stationery: Simple ivory.
Cake: Three tier choc mud cake decorated with white sugar roses.
Transport: My Brother-in-Law’s car, a new Ford Falcon.
Budget Tip: We spent money on what we felt to be important, e.g. good food and nice wine, but saved by organising music ourselves, using my Brother-in-Law’s new car (cars weren’t a priority), making the invitations ourselves, shopping around for everything, and spending the wedding night in our own home (because we’d only just moved in it still felt really special). And as we held a cocktail reception there was no need for bonbonierre/placecards etc.
Eco-friendly Tip: Try to keep ceremony/ reception in close proximity. A central location is good too – less travel and cheaper taxis home for the drinkers.
Handmade Tip: We made the invitations ourselves. I bought a veil off eBay but didn’t like it and ended up making one myself which was nicer and cheaper.
I wish: … the day didn’t go so quickly!
Something Special: Our Aunt is a nun and helped to really personalise the ceremony. At one point both sets of parents came forward to participate in a blessing.
