Gilda (interior design professional and owner of online interior store Nookid) and her husband Jesse created a little bit of magic on Hayman Island for their glamorous wedding. They met while working on Lindeman Island in the Whitsundays, so it was a natural choice for their wedding ceremony and reception destination. They cleverly used the combination of nature and elegance at Hayman Island as the theme for their wedding day with an ivory, white and latte colour palette. Thanks to our friends at Bridal Style for this gorgeous wedding!
Couple: Gilda & Jesse
Date: 17th October, 2009
Location: Hayman Island, Whitsundays, Queensland.
Photography: The Resort Image
Gown: Steve Khalil, Paddington, NSW
Shoes: Jimmy Choo
Suit: hired from Peppers Formal Wear, Sydney, NSW
Wedding Party: Four Groomsmen (two of the Groom’s brothers and two friends), dressed in three piece charcoal suits hired from Peppers Formal Wear. Four Bridesmaids (the Bride’s sister and three friends) wearing ivory chiffon gowns with rope detail by Bari Jay from Hills In Hollywood.
Accessories: Bride wore crystal earrings, and bracelet. Crystal Hair clip from Beads of Paradise.
Hair: Amanda Barnes
Makeup: Emma Lipshut
Flowers: Open head roses in white, ivory and latte from Hayman Florist (part of Hayman Events)
Wedding Planner: Hayman Events wedding package. Our event coordinator was Kate James. I did all the colour selection, theme, and design of the day, and Hayman Events put it all together for us.
Ceremony: Coconut beach, Hayman Island, QLD. Guests were given white parasols, white fans and a cone of white rose petals.
Celebrant: Fr Jose Koyical from the Whitsunday Catholic Parish.
Reception: Our beautiful reception was held outdoors in the Formal Gardens at Hayman Island, QLD. We had pre-dinner drinks and canapés to start, then for entree tea smoked salmon, or beef carpaccio. For mains there was a choice of chicken or lamb, a cheese course, and finally our cake served as dessert.
Music: Strings duo – Duo VV (phone: (07) 4959 8876 and email: kimkirkman73@hotmail.com) and entertainment by a local magician.
Decoration: Decorations are my specialty, so I provided my own chair sashes that I had custom-made with fabric from Lincraft, to match our colour scheme perfectly. I provided a table runner which was made from our signature fabric from Warwick Fabrics. I bought along my own chair covers, vases, menus, name tags etc. Hayman Events could have provided these but I wanted to ensure the stationery and theme was all coherent.
Stationery: Personally designed by myself, and printed by Wildfire Printing in Crows Nest, NSW.
Cake: Hayman Events made our delicious three-tiered cake. The lower layer was white chocolate ganache, the middle layer was hazelnut ganache and the top tier is a fruit cake which we bought home with us to cut on our 1st year anniversary.
Budget Tip: Double check every thing, ensure nothing has been double charged etc. If you have the time make things yourself – it cuts costs greatly and you really personalise your day.
Eco-friendly Tip: We used pieces of drift wood found around the island for our flower arrangements.
Handmade Tip: I handmade our invitation booklets, and decorated favour boxes and guest gifts to match our theme.
I wish: … we had more photos. We have 600, but you always want more.
Something Special: We had a chair at our ceremony which represented my late mother. The chair had a purple sash, a photo, a sign saying “reserved for mum” and a single stem rose, which our priest gave to me at the end of the ceremony.
